Q. How does the online jurying system work?
A:

Jurors view your images on a computer monitor. They see a preview screen that contains your images and information about your work. (See preview screen above.) Clicking on or mousing over an image enlarges it and displays the details – dimensions, medium, etc. – related to that specific image.

Before voting, jurors see a preview of all entries. They then vote on the body of work or individual works depending on the event. The results are tabulated electronically.

Q. What does web-optimized mean?
A:

Web optimized means that images are prepared for display via the web and on a computer monitor. We recommend that you scan your image at 300dpi and use 8-bit color– the color display setting used by most computer monitors.

Q. Will the color of my digital images translate accurately?
A:

Your images may have minor differences in hue from monitor to monitor. Stick with 8-bit color and you’ll have the best results.

Q. My image uploaded sideways, upside-down, or is washed out. How do I fix this?
A:

When saving your final image make sure that the image is saved with the following options:

  • Colorspace: sRGB
  • Metadata: None
  • Progressive JPEG: off
If an image is not saved in the sRGB colorspace it can appear washed out, blurry, in areas where there should be lots of detail or color saturation. Without the sRGB colorspace, the image has not been completely optimized for digital viewing.

The sRGB colorspace ensures that your image looks the same across various digital platforms such different devices, monitors, tablets etc. The generic and CMYK color spaces are used for printing specifications. If a generic or CMYK color profile is saved with the image instead of sRGB, numerous colors and combinations thereof are ignored because computers only use 3 colors and printers use 4.

If the color space is correct, then either the metadata, or progressive options which are saved to the final jpg/jpeg file, can can also confuse our algorithms. Having a non-progressive jpeg image with no meta-data will ensure that the thumbnails created have the same orientation as the original.

If your image uploaded incorrectly: Resave your image using the guidelines here re-upload your image. If you're still having difficulty please contact support by sending an e-mail to support@jurying.net.

Q. What general dimensions work best for viewing by the jury on a computer monitor?
A:

Color Mode
The most accurate looking jury images are RGB files that have been converted to the sRGB color space. CMYK images will not look accurate.

Images should be between 1400 pixels and 4000 pixels longest dimension at 300PPI (pixels per inch).

Depending upon your connection speed, large files can take several minutes to upload.

Warning: Images that do not meet the minimum/maximum size requirement will not be accepted by the system.

Be sure to send in your images in the proper rotation.

Q. Does it matter if I upload my images on a Mac or a PC?
A: No.

Q. What will happen if I start the application and accidentally get kicked off or am timed out?
A:

If you are logged off before completing, you will need to start the process again. Once you have completed your application, even if you have not paid yet, it is automatically saved. If you have an emergency or special situation, we will be responsive and help make sure that your application is received and processed.

We have developed a checklist to help through your application. The checklist includes items to prepare ahead of time so that, when you are filling out the application, you can avoid being “timed out“

We’re here to help. If you have questions, send email to: support@jurying.net

Q. Does it matter how I connect to the internet or the browser I use when I apply online?
A:

Mostly no.

If you connect to the internet using a slow dial up connection, large files can take a very long time to upload. If you do not have a high speed connection (DSL or Cable), it is essential that you prepare your images at the smallest possible file size while still retaining image quality.

On outdated browsers, some of our features may not work for you. We design for modern browsers and web standards, so you should be fine, but if not, try updating the browser you're using for the best experience.

Q. What can I do if my images will not upload?
A:

Please try again, following our instructions carefully. Read any error messages that appear – they contain information that will help you correct any mistakes. If you r internet connection is interrupted, your images may not upload – make sure you have an open connection.

If you’re still having problems, copy the error message and email us at support@jurying.net

Q. I uploaded all of my images but they are not coming up on the review page. What should I do?
A: Be patient. Upload time varies depending on connection speed and file size.

Q. What do I do if I get an "Error" message?
A:

There are 2 possible types of errors that could cause this message to appear:

User input errors. These include:
Registering with a username that is already in use

Invalid password or login name

Uploading corrupt image files

Files that are too large or in the wrong format

Read the error message at the top of the page and follow the instructions to correct any mistakes. If you need help, copy the error message in to an email along with your contact information and a brief description of what happened and sent it to support @jurying.net

System malfunction errors. These include:

Loss of connection to the database

A software code error

System malfunction errors are automatically reported to Juried Art Services so we can determine the source of the problem and correct it as quickly as possible.
